New Direction?

Well it's been a VERY busy year and a half.  I was so busy working on critical projects, that I wasn't able to script much and certainly didn't have time to blog.

Recently, I was approached by our Enterprise IT Security group about putting together a team for Cyberlympics (https://www.cyberlympics.org).  It's a Global Hacking Competition.  By no stretch of the imagination am I a hacker, but I thought it sounded fun and it's something that I've always wanted to learn.

From what I understand it will be a Capture The Flag (CTF) style competition (at least the Online Elimination Round), so we have been practicing CTF type challenges over at Backdoor (https://backdoor.sdslabs.co).

I've found quite a few more flags than I expected and I broke the top 100 last night.

My profile (https://backdoor.sdslabs.co/users/gmccauley) is below:

It's been really fun and I've already learned quite a bit in the last couple weeks.  Backdoor was supposed to have a competition tomorrow that we were going to do to "warm up" for Cyberlympics, but due to a server problem, they postponed it 2 weeks.

I think I'm going to start using this blog to write-up my solutions for both my teammates and anyone else who stumbles upon it.  And also for future reference if I ever need to remember what I did to solve a particular problem.

As always, comments are welcomed and if you know of any good CTF references, challenges, etc please let me know.
